In the Korean War the enlisted rank of Recruit had no accompanying insignia. The Pay Grade for a Recruit was E-1. The rank of Recruit first appeared in 1948 in order to replace the rank of Private. The Recruit rank was discontinued in 1955 and replaced with the Private rank.
